Are healthcare centres free of germs?

26/01/2012

The waiting room in a typical Healthcare Centre is NEVER free of germs.

The average time spent during every visit at your local GP’s waiting room could range from 15 – 20 minutes. A study in the Journal of Medical Virology reported that cold viruses can linger for more than 24 hours on hard surfaces such as tables, chairs, door knobs, and not forgetting newspapers, magazines and pens.

Next time, be sure to bring your own pen and reading materials. Touching your mouth with contaminated hands could spread gastrointestinal viruses, head and chest cold. Viruses can enter through your nose and eye membranes too.

For health measures, use hand sanitisers before and after you have visited your GP as germs are filled within those parameters. Ensure to have germ-free hands when you hold your child, rub your eyes or scratch your nose.
